The 20th annual Napa Valley ..."Competition was stiff for dozens of other auction offerings.
For example, Adams (the same Adams that bought the 1999 Diamond
Creek offering) had to fight off a considerable throng to land Diamond
Creek Vineyards big bottle collection of tiny Lake Vineyard cabernet
sauvignon. Barely three-quarters of an acre, the Lake site produces
exceptional fruit that vintner Al Brounstein in exceptional years
makes into a couple of barrels --one that's sold off and another
that's set aside for charity. Sold for$120,000, this lot included
a 9-liter bottle of the 1992 Lake cab, plus 3-liter bottles from
the 1994, 1996 and 1997 harvests.
